Acro 2
Placement by Instructor (typically ages 9+)
Tuesdays 7:00-8:30
While Acro II maintains the dance-integrated foundation established in Acro I, students begin working on more challenging transitional elements that connect smoothly into choreography. Emphasis is placed on seamless execution, strength-based inversions, and sustained balance in a performance setting.
This level begins with a formal strength and conditioning segment to support flexibility, mobility, stamina, alignment, and core control. Students use equipment such as yoga blocks, resistance bands, and stretch bars to build a strong foundation for advanced skills.
Instruction follows nationally recognized acro teaching standards and the DECK framework (Dance, Early Childhood, and Knowledge), incorporating safe developmental sequencing rooted in body readiness. Students develop a cognitive understanding of movement progressions, which allows them to advance safely and intentionally through increasingly complex skills. Each new skill builds upon previous mastery and is introduced only when a dancer has met the required prerequisite.
Acro II includes training in floor-based acro skills such as walkovers, Valdez, handsprings, aerial drills, back tucks, and more refined inverted balances (hand-, elbow-, and chest-supported).
Acro II dancers will perform a choreographed routine in the year-end showcase, demonstrating their advanced technique, control, and artistry.
