WHAT TO EXPECT
Whether you're joining us for the first time or returning to continue your dance journey, we want you to feel confident and excited from the moment you step through our doors. Here’s a quick guide to what you can expect during your time at Starr's Dance & Acro Central.
CLASS LOCATION
Classes will begin at our temporary location, in a private room adjacent to The Beacon at First United Methodist Church:
2200 3rd Ave N, Pell City, AL 35125
Our space is located beside the gymnasium on the side of the building opposite Highway 231, near the church sanctuary and behind the daycare playground. The designated entrance is a side door marked with a pink poster board, situated just behind a row of shrubs.
This entrance should be used for all drop-offs and pick-ups.

STEP 1
During the first week of classes, parents are welcome to walk their child inside for drop-off.
Parents must check their child in through the Studio Pro Portal mobile app each time they arrive for class (from the Apple Store or Google Play store).
This confirms your dancer is safely inside and ready to begin.
Please enable notifications in the app to stay updated on reminders, schedule changes, and studio announcements.
STEP 2
Once class begins, parents must either return to their vehicle or, for dancers ages 2–4, may wait in the Beacon gymnasium at the provided tables and chairs.
This space is reserved for families of students ages 2–4 only. Siblings must remain seated and quiet. The gym is actively used by the church daycare during our class times, and families are not permitted to use or interact with daycare equipment or inflatables.
The main glass doors to the Beacon gymnasium remain locked from the outside, so all families must enter through the studio entrance.
STEP 3
At dismissal, students ages 2–4 will be brought to their parents in the Beacon waiting area and will exit through the glass doors. This helps reduce congestion as the next class enters through the main studio door.
All classes are closed to spectators, and parents are not permitted to wait inside the studio during class time.
To maintain safety and appropriate boundaries, men are not allowed to remain in the studio during class hours.
Pre-Class Potty Reminder
We strongly encourage students to use the restroom before class begins, especially our little ones. If a restroom break is needed during class, we will assist your child to the restroom. However, we ask families to plan ahead, as mid-class trips can be disruptive. Restrooms are located on the far side of the Beacon gymnasium and can be accessed from the waiting area.
DRESS CODE
Students must follow a clear dress code for all dance and acro classes. Proper attire helps students move safely, learn effectively, and feel confident in class. All students should arrive dressed in appropriate dancewear and shoes, with hair securely pulled back. Those who are not properly prepared may be asked to sit out until they are in dress code.
DANCE & ACRO
Dance and Acro students must wear fitted, movement-appropriate attire. Acceptable options include classic leotards and tights, sports bras with athletic shorts, or leggings.
YOUNG DANCERS
Young dancers may wear ballet dresses, but detachable ballet skirts are discouraged as they often become a distraction during class.
HIP-HOP
Students may wear trendy, loose-fitting attire such as joggers, sweatpants, or off-the-shoulder sweatshirts that allow comfortable, full-range movement. Blue jeans are not permitted.
REMINDER:
Transition tights (convertible tights with openings at the foot) are required for ballet and other styles that involve bare feet or quick shoe changes.
Hair must be pulled away from the face in a ballet bun, ponytail, or braid. Loose hair is not permitted.
All dance shoes should be clearly labeled inside to help prevent mix-ups. Please avoid placing names on the bottoms.
FOR PARENTS
-
Parents are invited to watch the final 10 minutes of class during the last week of each month. This is a great opportunity to check in on your child’s progress and celebrate their growth throughout the season.
-
If you need to speak with Miss Starr or a member of our staff, please reach out through the Parent Portal or here.
While quick questions are always welcome, we are unable to pause or hold extended conversations between classes, as our focus remains on student instruction and class flow.
-
For some young dancers, the first few weeks come with big emotions—and we understand how difficult that can be for parents.
Please know that your child is cared for in a welcoming, structured, and encouraging environment.
Our program gently supports dancers as they build trust, gain confidence, and begin to enjoy their time in class.
You are not alone—and we’re honored to be part of your child’s journey.
-
Our dance and acrobatics programs are rooted in structured, age-appropriate instruction that supports both technical development and early childhood learning. We follow a progression-based curriculum that emphasizes strong foundations, safe movement, and purposeful training. Our approach is guided by the nationally recognized DECK model and reflects our studio’s certification in both dance and acro education. To read the full curriculum for both programs, click here.
